shutterstock_70724011It can happen instantly. One minute you’re just enjoying a meal with friends or family; the next, pain is shooting through your jaw. You’ve cracked a tooth.

But maybe your problem isn’t quite as drastic as that. Instead of suddenly cracking a tooth, you just have a chip you’ve been meaning to fix. Or, you have old silver/mercury fillings that are beginning to deteriorate.

All of these problems can easily be fixed with porcelain crowns from Dr. Ajmo’s Palm Beach Gardens office.

What’s precious to you

forblogpicHere at, PGA Center for Advanced Dentistry know that you choose to place a high value on says quite a bit about you.  For example, if you treasure your health and well-being and that of your family, that tells the world that quality of life really matters to you.  An improved quality of life brings each of us a greater sense of self-confidence and mastery of our environment.  And nothing says self-confidence and mastery like a healthy and beautiful smile.

Here are some flaws we’re often asked about.   Many of the popular solutions we’ve suggested take only one or two visits without surgery

  • Chipped or cracked teeth? Tooth-like materials can be bonded to your enamel so no one will ever notice.
  • Discolored teeth? Supervised professional whitening can brighten your teeth.  Versatile bonding and veneers can camouflage and whiten.
  • Gaps in your teeth? Bonding or porcelain veneers can reduce unwanted spaces without braces.
  • Crooked, crowded, or protruding teeth? Teeth with very wide gaps? Orthodontics can bring them back in line – in no time.
  • Worn-down teeth and ageing restorations? Beautiful natural-looking inlays and onlays, crowns, bonding, and veneers can whiten, re-contour, strengthen, and restore symmetry to your smiling face!

Some things are too precious not to value.  Your beautiful smile is proof that you have chosen to become the best that you can be!

Treatment for TMJ Dysfunction from Dr. Ajmo’s Palm Beach Garden’s Office

tmj dysfunctionEvery time you come to Dr. Ajmo’s Palm Beach Garden’s dental office for a visit, we’re going to spend part of that time taking a close look at your smile. What are we looking for? Primarily decay, gum disease, and oral cancer, but we’re also keeping an eye out for signs of temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD).

Often caused by stress or a misaligned bite, TMD is a common condition that’s accompanied by painful symptoms such as migraine headaches or pain in your temples, ears, neck, and shoulders. The good news for our patients is it can be treated, and often with a combination of relaxation techniques and a splint.

Treatment for TMD from Dr. Ajmo

A splint is a custom made oral appliance that can prevent teeth grinding, jaw clenching, and even help correct a misaligned bite. But even with an oral appliance, knowing relaxation techniques that can help you diffuse stress can still be a good thing.

We can talk to you about some of these techniques if we find evidence of TMD during your exam, and we can also take an impression of your teeth, which our lab will use to make your oral appliance.

Contact us today to schedule your next appointment with Dr. Ajmo, or to find out more about TMD and how it can be treated. We serve patients from all throughout South Florida.

Preventing Prediabetes

9152676-mature-couple-smiling-and-embracingOne of North America’s largest health epidemics, prediabetes, is the gray area between higher than normal blood sugar and diabetic levels.  People in this range are at risk of not only developing type 2 diabetes, but heart disease, stroke and gum disease.

Gum disease is often called the sixth complication of diabetes. It may not cause diabetes, but gum disease can affect its severity.

Prevent gum disease by:

  • Brushing after meals
  • Flossing daily
  • Visiting us for regular cleanings

Reduce your risk of prediabetes by:

  • Controlling your weight
  • Exercising regularly
  • Getting at least 6 hours of sleep at night

The important thing to remember is that prediabetes may not have to lead to type 2 diabetes.  Making healthy changes to diet and lifestyle today can help you to alter your future for the better.

perfectteethOnce you and Dr. Ajmo have decided together that cosmetic veneers are the best option for you, the fun begins!  In addition to your great new look, Dr. Ajmo will take into consideration your face shape and the proportions and symmetry of your face and smile.

We’ll look at these elements…

Veneers can immediately provide you with whiter, even, straighter appearing teeth by…

Camouflaging

  • Pitted, worn, and dingy or yellow teeth due to enamel erosion, foods, beverages, age, or medications
  • Gaps that trap food and make your feel self-conscious about smiling

Simple steps to decrease the risk of tooth decay

Here at PGA Center for Advanced Dentistry we care for your teeth.  In between regular visits to the dentist, there are simple steps that each of us can take to greatly decrease the risk of developing tooth decay, gum disease and other dental problems. These include:

  • Eating a balanced diet and limiting snacks between meals
  • Using dental products that contain fluoride, including toothpaste
  • Rinsing with a fluoride mouthrinse if your dentist tells you to
  • Making sure that your children under 12 drink fluoridated water or take a fluoride supplement if they live in a non-fluoridated area.
