Use This Halloween to Teach Your Little One about Brushing and Flossing

trick or treaterHalloween is just a few days away now. That means costumes, costume parties, trick-or-treating, and candy, of course. And while candy and cavities go hand-in-hand in many ways, that doesn’t mean you should keep your little one at home on Halloween night.

Instead, once your child’s had a chance to have plenty of candy, consider using this coming Monday to teach your little one about brushing and flossing. Brushing and flossing are foundational aspects of oral hygiene, and learning both at a young age can do a lot to help your son or daughter  develop healthy habits that will last well into adulthood.

Not sure how to get started? Give PGA Center for Advanced Dentistry a call today. Dr. Ajmo and the rest of our team would be happy to answer any questions you might have about teaching your little one the basics of brushing and flossing.

And one last thing before we go. We want to wish all our patients a happy Halloween. Stay safe and have fun!

Natural and Durable Porcelain Veneers at PGA Center for Advanced Dentistry

Dental veneers (sometimes called porcelain veneers) are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve your appearance. These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth changing their color, shape, size, or length. Dental veneers are made from porcelain materials. Porcelain veneers resist stains and mimic the light reflecting properties of natural teeth. At PGA Center for Advanced Dentistry, Dr. Ajmo takes pride in creating custom smiles for his patients. Contact us at (561) 627-8666 to set up a no charge consultation today!

Veneers are routinely used to fix:veneers

  • Teeth that are discolored — either because of root canal treatment; stains from tetracycline or other drugs, excessive fluoride or other causes; or the presence of large resin fillings that have discolored the tooth
  • Teeth that are worn down
  • Teeth that are chipped or broken
  • Teeth that are misaligned, uneven, or irregularly shaped (for example, have craters or bulges in them)
  • Teeth with gaps between them (to close the space between these teeth)

Saving Smiles with Root Canal Therapy

oral examFor many Americans, the words “root canal” conjures up fears of a painful dental appointment. But those fears are rooted in the past—when modern tools and anesthetics didn’t exist—instead of the present. Today, root canals can be performed in one safe and relatively comfortable visit to Dr. Ajmo’s Palm Beach Gardens office.

What Is A Root Canal?

To put it simply, root canals are used to treat teeth with infected nerves.

How do infections like these occur? There’s no one way, exactly. Sometimes infections can develop following an injury. In other cases, one may occur because of a deep cavity or large crack. But no matter how an infection many develop, pain and swelling will always be an indication of trouble.

It’s through a root canal that patients can finally experience relief.

A Few Oral Care Reminders from PGA Center for Advanced Dentistry

woman brushingHave you ever found yourself standing in the toothpaste aisle of your grocery store looking for a toothbrush, and you just felt absolutely overwhelmed by the selection in front of you?

It’s true that everyone has different needs and no smile is exactly the same, but a general guideline to follow as you look for a new toothbrush—and replacing your toothbrush every few months is very important—is to go with one that has soft bristles and will adequately reach those hard to brush areas at the back of your mouth.

You may also want to consider an electric or battery-operated brush, as those can help you brush even more efficiently. Some even come programmed with a timer, that way you can just keep brushing until it lets you know you’re done by turning off.

If you don’t have one of these brushes, though, try “The Star-Spangled Banner” to yourself while you brush (not necessarily out loud, of course!). Not brushing long enough can be almost as bad as not brushing at all.

It’s also important, when brushing, to make sure your toothpaste contains fluoride. Fluoride can help your smile by attracting minerals that are vital for keeping your teeth and your enamel strong.

Still have questions? Give our Palm Beach Gardens office a call. We serve patients from all through-out the South Florida region.

Heartburn can jeopardize oral health

Make The Connection
Heartburn can jeopardize oral health
People who suffer from heartburn – or acid refl ux – usually suffer a double
whammy: a threat to good oral health often accompanies uncomfortable
symptoms such as throat irritation, gagging, and a bitter taste.
Stomach acids are meant to fl ow through the digestive system, but for people
with refl ux, acid will actually fl ow up into the esophagus and sometimes even
into the throat and mouth which may have an impact on your smile. Teeth have a
neutral pH of 5.5, but stomach acid, as you would expect, is much more acidic at a
pH level of 2.0. Because of this, refl ux will erode tooth enamel, inviting sensitivity,
pain, and discoloration. Bad breath may also become chronic.
If you suffer from acid refl ux, please seek treatment from your doctor and see
us to ensure your teeth are protected.
